As part of the L’humain recomposé lecture series, under the direction of Lydie Bodiou (MCF in Ancient Greek History, Herma Laboratory, University of Poitiers) and Thierry Hauet (Coordinator of the HR2S network, Inserm, CHU Poitiers, University of Poitiers), the Espace Mendès France is hosting Isabelle Galichon for a lecture for the general public entitled: Literature and healthcare: a different approach to medicine.
Isabelle Galichon has a doctorate in French-language and comparative literature, and is a research associate at the Plurielles research unit (UBM) and the Institute of Integrative and Complementary Medicine (IMIC) at Bordeaux University Hospital. Since 2023, she has held the Chair of Narrative Medicine – Hospitality in Health.
An innovative approach, the aim is to put stories – and the patient’s story in the first instance – back at the heart of the healthcare relationship, using a methodology based on literary studies and literature: cultivating listening skills, learning to interpret the patient’s story, being aware of the potential of language. This is part of the work being done in the field of healthcare democracy. By giving more weight to what patients have to say, they once again become active players in their own care.
